Delaware Street Demolition

It was a beautiful day Wednesday, perfect weather for the City of Albany and Habitat to demolish the six metal garages on Delaware St., new home to four houses being built this year by Habitat.  The garages were structurally unsound and unsafe and were removed in order to continue the work of revitalization in Albany’s South End community. Relatives of long-time homeowner on the block, Willie Tune, owned the demolition company that demolished the buildings.

More homes are slated for this block in the near future. This project includes the Thrivent Build homes across the street and the continuation of “Morton’s Walk”, the project beginning on Alexander St.

The City of Albany Mayor Gerald D. Jennings and the City of Albany Development and Planning Department’s Commissioner Mike Yevoli joined Mike Jacobson (Executive Director of HFHCD) in a brief introduction to the Delaware project. News Coverage from YNN, Fox23, Channel13 and others join in the celebration of new beginnings for the Delaware community.
