Breaking Ground in Troy

Today we celebrated the groundbreaking of our newest community at “Fox Hollow” and the merging of the Habitat for Humanity Capital District with Rensselaer County Habitat for Humanity! “Fox Hollow” will consist of nine new single-family homes located on Burden Avenue and Cross Street in South Troy. This project will revitalize and strengthen a community that sits at the gateway to the City of Troy. With the full strength and resources of the formerly separate Habitat affiliates, the newly merged HfHCD will continue to build homes in partnership with hardworking families and transform entire communities by creating affordable homeownership opportunities.

Despite the rainy conditions, many supporters came out to share in this special occasion. Executive Director Michael Jacobson provided the opening remarks and introduced special guests and speakers Mayor Lou Rosamilia, Deputy County Executive Christopher Meyer, President of the Troy City Council Lynn Kopka, John H. Dennis of the Seymour Fox Estate, Schuyler Tilly of First Niagara as well as family members who will be living in the first home. The ceremony ended with a blessing from HfHCD Board Vice-Chair Willie White and the official breaking of ground.

Thank you to everyone who helped make today such a special day!
