Capital District Habitat for Humanity has partnered with Fundaz to create a Habitat savings card for local businesses. Just like entertainment books, Fundaz cards help raise money for local non profits. They are the easier way to get discounts on things you buy all the time, without the hassle of clipping and remembering coupons. It's good for one year from the day you purchase it, no matter when you buy. Plus, you'll be supporting your local Habitat when you purchase the savings card!
Click here to be directed to our savings card website. You can purchase the card right online, or just browse the list of participating vendors. Thanks for your support!! |

15 and 16 Emmet St. Dedication |
|
Capital District Habitat for Humanity (CDHfH) dedicated its 48th Habitat Home at 16 Emmet Street, and rededicated the home at 15 Emmet Street, at a ceremony Thursday, April 29, 2010 at 11am. House keys were presented to the new homeowners, D’Andrea Brooks and Detra McGill, on Emmet Street in Albany’s North End. The build at 16 Emmet Street was graciously sponsored by the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Albany who provided funding and volunteer labor, with additional dollars from State Farm and the Albany County Housing Trust Fund. 15 Emmet Street was originally completed and dedicated to D’Andrea Brooks back in 2006 as a handicapped accessible house for her wheelchair bound child. However, as the child grew, more accommodations became necessary. Therefore, Habitat built 16 Emmet Street, designed by Andrew Oaks, a student at Hudson Valley Community College, with additional handicapped features for D’Andrea and her children. D’Andrea’s first Habitat home at 15 Emmet Street will now be dedicated to a newly qualified purchaser—Detra McGill. Before applying for Habitat, Detra lived in a small one bedroom apartment. She always wanted to own her own house. She has been volunteering (sweat equity) for two years now. She likes construction so much that she is thinking of doing it on the side and possibly taking a few classes. While awaiting her house, she worked full-time and went to school part time. She was able to afford school through an Americorp scholarship, and she just finished classes in December. She currently works as a day care teacher. Even though she has no kids, Habitat has affected her family. She is thinking of taking two of her nieces in, since she now has her own place, and she is looking forward to starting her own family soon. Detra says, regarding her new home: “I just want to thank God for having the opportunities to give to others, and now He is giving me the chance to start my own family in my own home.” |

486 N. Pearl St. Dedication |
|
Capital District Habitat for Humanity (CDHfH) dedicated its 47th Habitat Home at a ceremony Thursday, March 25th at 11am. House keys were presented by Mayor Jerry Jennings to the new homeowner Tammie Barnes at 486 N. Pearl St. in Albany (see photo above). The project was graciously sponsored by Siena College and Prime Companies subsidiaries, Coldwell Banker Prime Properties and Home Funding Finders
The home is part of Capital District Habitat for Humanity's North End Neighborhood Revitalization Project. The Siena House is special because it was supported by student activity - many of the volunteer groups were Siena students and fundraising was driven by Siena students to sponsor this house. In turn, Prime Companies matched the students' funds. Prime Companies is owned by Ken Raymond, member of Siena's board of trustees. When asked how what a Habitat home meant to her, Tammie Barnes replied, "I had a tragedy in my life. I lost my son. This habitat home is something that I can leave in memory of the son I have lost." |
